Naim är en av mycket få high end-tillverkare som har utvecklat en egen streamingplattform för att nå prestanda som inte är möjlig med standardteknik. Efter 8 år är det dags för nästa generation, som har tagit 25 av Naims utvecklare 3 år att utveckla och resultatet liknar inte något annat. Sortimentet börjar med ND5 XS2. Här har man sparat in på allt som inte påverkar ljudkvalitén. Därför har den inte samma lyxiga färgskärm som de exklusivare modellerna och den går heller inte att uppgradera med extern nätdel. Men den innehåller Naims unika nya streamingmodul NP800 som de större modellerna har, samma arkitektur med separat överföring av ljuddata och klockning och balanserad LVDS-teknik där man inte är beroende av jordens potential. ND5 XS2 ger extrem prestanda i förhållande till priset. The ND5 XS 2 uses the latest innovative new streaming platform from Naim with an expanded feature set making this versatile player the ideal partner for one of their integrated amplifiers. Using carefully selected and matched parts, an oversized toroidal transformer, decoupled PCB boards: the ND5 XS 2 benefits from classic Naim engineering and fastidious attention to detail ensuring that it delivers natural, engaging sound quality from all sources both streamed or via the digital inputs. The streaming section of the ND5 XS 2 uses the latest Naim network card featuring low-noise, high-speed low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) to route the digital audio signal. The higher speed is capable of decoding all HD audio formats at up to 32 bits/384 kHz or DSD128. Rather than the source acting as the digital timing master, the new streaming board turns things around and allows the DAC clock to control the flow of audio data. The data is integer-over-sampled in a SHARC DSP to an incredible 40-bit accuracy before it’s fed to the PCM1791A Burr-Brown digital-to-analogue converter.
